I envisioned the way I would make the curtains and didn't think it would be too incredibly hard. Shortly after, I found a really simple tutorial on Pinterest. By simple, I mean I think even my brother could do this and his talents do not include sewing.
The most tedious part was ironing.all.seven.yards.of.fabric.
I then called on my professional advice-giver, aka Mom, to make sure I was going to be cutting it correctly. We first decided to start folding the top down and it was fairly simple because we chose a white or green chevron point to use as the folding line.
The first panel was easier than the second because the chevron lines need to line up properly. {Insert me shaking my fist at Nancy's chevron decision now.} That is where the picture above would have been taken. For some reason the length was different than the first and thus the reason for several ironed crease lines on the fabric.
After your first iron edge to make a straight line of fabric, the fabric was folded again and ironed to make the space for the curtain rod.
(I am also fully aware that my mom's in need of an ironing board cover, but she felt she didn't iron enough to need one.)
After folding and ironing and folding and ironing, it was time for the sides. The first fold was simple.
And then another fold and iron. The ironing does make it nice that I didn't use pins to hold anything until sewing the hem on the bottom. After folding the sides and top, it looked like this and was ready for the sewing machine.
I sewed the sides first and then refolded the top down so even the curtain rod opening would have an even and clean folded edge. After that, I laid the curtains back out on the floor to measure the length Nancy was wanting, which was floor to ceiling and 94". This is where I used pins to pin the length of the curtains, ironed the edges flat and then started sewing the last line of fabric. I ironed the edges of the fabric all the way around again to give them a crisp edge and ta-daa! That was it, all in a short 3 hour span. The longest part was ironing the fabric, but the measuring, folding and sewing was painless.
The finished project? Well you will have to wait for the nursery to be finished so I can snap some pictures to show you the final product!
EEEEEK! Lining up chevrons. Bllllahhhh. I had forgotten that part. My bathroom curtains were NOTHING compared to this project!
